...making a difference
C:HAT was approached by Nitewing consultants to carry out a piece of reconnaissance using detached youth work methodology in Market Harborough and the surrounding villages of Fleckney and Kibworth.
During this time, it was clear that young people wanted to be involved in activities, which not only were fun but also allowed them an opportunity to make a difference to the community that they were a part of.
Through the consultation process the SO WHAT project has been developed.
A year into the project detached youth workers are now out and about three to five nights a week on the streets of Market Harborough and the surrounding villages of Kibworth, Fleckney and Great Glen, working with young people in addressing issues that are important to them through a programme of social education together with supporting those young people who have issues around their alcohol and drugs use, providing accurate information that allow young people to make safe lifestyle choices.

...making a difference
A group of four young men, approached C:HAT to ask for support to set up an urban music project with a twist, they wanted to participate in urban music workshops and purchase specific pieces of equipment in order to develop their music skills.
Along side this they wanted to run urban music nights, where young people could showcase their talents to their peers, and any money raised they would invest in futher equipment and music workshops to enable other young people to develop their skills.
So far applications have been made to Big Boost, Welland Catalyst Fund and Awards for All, however whilst waiting for grants the group have wasted no time in organising their first urban music event.
Their initative shows that young people really do care about their local community and when given support want to take an active part in providing opportunities that have a significant impact on tackling anti-social behaviour
